A popular Japanese TV program for kids, “Nihongodeasobo (Fun with Japanese),” by Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), Japan’s only public broadcaster, debuts its application!

This application presents Japanese language, culture and traditions in enjoyable games and activities.
Play “karuta,” a traditional Japanese card game, and get familiar with essential Japanese words and characters!
(All the contents including texts, recorded speeches, and videos are in Japanese only)

“Karuta” is a Japanese card game that can be enjoyed by everyone from children to adults. A set of karuta is built by matching cards with corresponding meanings. The words on the “reading card” are read and then the players grab the matching card from the remaining cards spread out on the table or floor.

You can enjoy a variety of activities including karuta game in this application.

FEATURES:
* KARUTA GAME
- Play “E-awase Karuta” (i.e. “picture matching karuta” game—also a widely-liked feature in the NHK TV program)
- The karuta cards have Japanese great literary phrases and proverbs on them, alongside beautiful illustrations.
- Choose from 3 different decks containing 8, 20, or 48 cards.
- Play solo, or use the multiplayer function.
* WRITING “HIRAGANA”
- Practice writing letters of “hiragana,” the most basic Japanese script, using your finger as a pencil in easy step-by-step instructions.
* ANIMATION
- Touch the cards to discover fun animated graphics.
* RECORDING FUNCTION
- Read out the Japanese on the cards, record your voice, and check it with the playback function.
* VIDEO PROGRAMS
- Enjoy the features from “Nihongodeasobo” by NHK which present classic Japanese quotations and proverbs in entertaining videos.
* PLAY WITH JAPANESE “HIRAGANA”
- Drag, drop and sort the tiled Japanese “hiragana” letters like a puzzle.
- Explore the tiles to let voices and sounds join in the fun.
